To ensure statistical validity, advertisers can select their preferred confidence intervals (95%, 80%, or 70%). Success is measured via primary metrics such as Return on Ad Spend (ROAS), Cost Per Acquisition (CPA), total conversions, or total conversion value.

To achieve reliable results, Google recommends several guidelines:

  • Isolate Variables: Keep experiment arms as similar as possible, changing only one primary variable at a time to avoid skewed data.
  • Budget Consistency: Ensure total budgets across arms are aligned unless the budget itself is the variable being tested.
  • Stability: Avoid using shared budgets or making major in-flight changes while the experiment is active.
  • Patience: Run experiments for a minimum of six to eight weeks to achieve statistical reliability and account for conversion lag.
