Google Launches Proactive ‘Information Agents’ for AI Ultra Subscribers

Google has officially introduced ‘Information Agents’ as a premium feature within its Google Search AI Mode, marking a significant step toward autonomous, agentic web searching. This new capability, which was initially teased during Google I/O, is now rolling out to users subscribed to the Google AI Ultra plan across all supported languages and markets.

Moving Beyond Passive Search

Unlike traditional search, which requires a user to manually query for information, these new Information Agents act as persistent, automated researchers. Once a user provides specific parameters for a topic, the agent works in the background, monitoring the web around the clock. The system continuously scans diverse sources—including news outlets, blogs, social media platforms, and Google’s own real-time datasets covering finance, shopping, and sports—to track updates.

Practical Applications for Users

According to Robby Stein, who announced the rollout on X, these agents are designed to handle complex, time-sensitive monitoring tasks. The utility of this feature is vast:

  • Apartment Hunting: Users can provide detailed criteria—such as location, price, and amenities—and the agent will proactively notify them the moment a listing that matches those specific requirements appears online.
  • Market Monitoring: For those tracking specific releases, such as sneaker drops or product launches, the agent will alert the user the instant a new collaboration is announced, ensuring they never miss a drop.
  • Continuous Updates: Users can ask AI Mode to ‘keep me updated’ on any niche topic, and the system will send detailed summaries and direct links as soon as new information hits the web.

Availability and Expansion

Currently, this feature is exclusive to Google AI Ultra subscribers. While the rollout has begun in all AI Mode-enabled languages and markets, Google plans to refine the experience based on initial user feedback. The company has indicated that it intends to broaden access to these agentic features to a larger segment of users later this summer. As Google continues to integrate more autonomous capabilities into its search engine, the line between ‘searching’ for information and having information ‘delivered’ by an agent continues to blur, signaling a transformative shift in the user search experience.
