Google Introduces New Invalid Activity Credit Report for Google Ads Advertisers
Google has unveiled a significant update to its advertising transparency tools with the launch of the ‘Invalid Activity Credit Report.’ This new resource, detailed in a freshly published help document, aims to provide advertisers with unprecedented visibility into how their budgets are protected from fraudulent or non-compliant traffic.
Understanding the Invalid Activity Credit Report
Google Ads utilizes advanced, automated defensive systems to identify and filter out invalid traffic—such as accidental clicks or malicious bot activity—before they impact an advertiser’s billing. While most of these protections occur in real-time, some invalid activity is detected after an invoice has already been generated. In such cases, Google issues credits to the advertiser’s account.
Historically, these credits appeared as adjustments in billing statements, often making it difficult for marketers to associate specific credits with particular campaigns. The new report bridges this gap by breaking down credits by campaign and network, providing a clearer picture of net performance.
Key Benefits of the New Reporting Tool
According to the official help documentation, the report offers three primary advantages:
- Comprehensive Post-Billing Performance: Advertisers can now view their ‘adjusted’ metrics, including costs, clicks, and interactions, reflecting the true performance after invalid traffic credits have been applied.
- Streamlined Reconciliation: The report eliminates the tedious process of manually tracking credits back to specific campaigns, saving time for performance marketers and data analysts.
- Enhanced Transparency: It offers a detailed look into how Google’s defensive mechanisms are actively shielding specific campaign budgets from policy violations and invalid traffic.
How to Access the Report
The Invalid Activity Credit Report is now available for Search and Performance Max campaigns. To generate this data, users can navigate to the ‘Report Editor’ within the Campaigns menu. Under the ‘Template gallery’ section, select ‘Invalid Activity Credit Report: Search & PMax.’
Once generated, the report includes dedicated columns for ‘credited clicks,’ ‘credited interactions,’ and ‘credited amount.’ Advertisers have the flexibility to customize the report by adding or removing performance metrics to suit their specific reporting needs and can save these configurations for future use.
By empowering advertisers with this level of granularity, Google is taking a proactive step toward building greater trust in its automated protection systems, allowing businesses to optimize their campaigns with higher confidence.
